Great American State Fair: NEA Legacy Stage

Great American State Fair: NEA Legacy Stage

Showcasing the NEA Legacy Stage

For 16 days, our team was on-site at the National Mall, partnered with the National Endowment for the Arts to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary at the Great American State Fair.

LAI Video provided live event video production, photography, and rapid turnaround editing to showcase the daily music, dance, and cultural programming that was on NEA’s Legacy Stage.

Challenge

One Stage. Hundreds of Performances. No Second Takes.

Live events only happen once. This meant capturing the energy, artistry, and experiences exactly as the audience witnessed it.

The project spanned an extensive lineup of programming, with changing schedules, evolving requirements, weather considerations, multiple production teams, and hundreds of performances to capture. LAI’s role was to stay focused on NEA’s presence and mission, requiring close coordination with the foundation, the artists, and the broader production team, along with the judgement to know what moments would matter once the footage reached the edit.

Solution

Capturing the Stage and Promoting the Mission

We worked with NEA before the fair opened to develop their content strategy. To drive attendance while the event was still ongoing, we produced 5 event recap videos, each delivered with a 24–48-hour turnaround, giving NEA fresh content to build awareness and promote the Legacy Stage while performances were still underway.

Following the event, we created a promotional highlight video showcasing NEA’s artists, mission, Legacy Stage programming, and branding for continued digital promotion.

Our team, including videographers and photographers, were on-site for 10 days, capturing performances and live natural audio, while building a library of footage for NEA’s website and future communications. As GSA Schedule contractors, the team also coordinated with outside partners, multiple stakeholders, and federal production requirements to ensure a smooth process from capture through approval.

ROI

Beyond the Stage

The finalized content helped build awareness and encouraged attendance while the event was still underway. The final videos, photography, and footage library now give the organization a flexible collection of marketing assets for its website, social channels, artist promotion, and future outreach. Together, they extended the value of the Legacy Stage across NEA’s platforms and provided them with a versatile package of deliverables for future outreach.

Just as importantly, NEA’s post-event feedback recognized the team’s professionalism, responsiveness, and ability to support artists and staff throughout production of this scale.

When an event only happens once, coverage is an act of trust. Our job was to take that seriously, capture it right, and make sure the work could keep going after the stage went dark.
